A repository of materials for my statistics textbooks

About Milton

Milton the cat is a character from my book An Adventure in Statistics who finds himself the reluctant teacher of the book’s hero, Zach Slade, who wakes up to find that his soul mate Alice has vanished. To find her, he must solve a puzzle using the only clue he has – Alice’s unfinished research report. To do this he needs to learn statistics … fast. Milton becomes Zach’s mentor, and now that Zach’s quest is over, Milton has decided to be your mentor too by creating this repository of statistics tutorials that accompany my books.

Roadmap

The menus link to materials relating to the following textbooks:

  • SPSS: Materials for my textbook Discovering Statistics Using IBM SPSS Statistics. The ‘official’ companion website maintained by the publishers is at https://edge.sagepub.com/field5e, but it links back to this website because it makes sense for me to maintain and update certain resources (e.g., Smart Alex tasks, Self-Tests). For a more coherant experience, you might use the official companion website, which will bring you here when you need it. I have some interactive IBM SPSS Statistics tutorials here too.
  • adventr: Materials for my textbook An Adventure in Statistics. The ‘official’ companion website maintained by the publishers is at https://edge.sagepub.com/field-an-adventure-in-stats, but the adventr menu has information about an R package called adventr that accompanies the book and teaches you R using a series of interactive tutorials.
  • discovr: Materials for my textbook Discovering Statistics Using R and Rstudio. This section is under development because I’m writing a new edition of this book. There’s not much here yet, other than information about a package for R that I’m developing that contains a series of interactive tutorials that teach you R as you work through the textbook.
